The solution for today’s Wordle is SNIDE — a word that isn’t particularly rare, but still manages to put up a fight. With an average solve rate of 3.8 guesses, it sits right in the middle of the difficulty curve. All the letters are common, yet the challenge comes from the overwhelming number of S—E word patterns that can fit.
For some context:
- S—E is the most common starting-and-ending combination in the original Wordle list, appearing 74 times.
- For the pattern S?I?E, the S-I-E sequence is the third most frequent arrangement, following S-A-E and S-O-E.
My opening word SANER revealed S, N, and E, while ruling out A and R. Even so, I was left with 16 potential answers, which is more than you’d expect after getting one green and two yellows on the first attempt.

However, I completely missed several common contenders like SCENT, SPENT, SCENE, and SPEND — likely because I was too locked in on the idea that the E had to be in the final position.
That wasn’t the real reason I didn’t land a three-guess solve, though. My second word simply wasn’t strong enough. I played THING, which eliminated 14 combinations but left me with a 50/50 between SNIDE and SNIPE. According to WordleBot, choosing INEPT would have narrowed it down to just one option — guaranteeing a three-guess finish.
